Tim

Tim Mattingly – Lead Teacher (6-8) (TPS since 2024)

Tim has taught middle school and high school students for the past 10 years. He grew up in Indiana, attended Indiana University, and taught in Indianapolis until about two years ago when he moved back to Bloomington. He recently learned that people who move back to Bloomington are called Bloomerangs, and he thinks that's a pretty cool term. When it comes to teaching, Tim loves sparking creativity in his students through authentic projects that have a real purpose and audience. He loves middle schoolers because they are often not afraid to be their weird and hilarious selves while also being able to think deeply and look at the world with a unique perspective. Outside the classroom (and sometimes inside the classroom), Tim loves playing guitar and listening to music.

Luis Silva – Lead Teacher (6-8) (TPS since 2021)

I'm originally from TX, attended college in CA, then moved to Bloomington to attend graduate school, receiving my History PhD in 2020 (Go Hoosiers!!). I've chosen this as my home because it is a wonderful place to raise a family (my own child will be in 7th this year). As a parent and educator, I am proud to be affiliated with TPS. The resources, opportunities, and care we provide to students are top-notch. We recognize and value that students have different abilities. Our project-based learning allows kids to shine using their multiple strengths. As a teacher, I have a focus on inclusivity, ensuring all perspectives and backgrounds are valued and represented. I also make sure all my students feel welcome. I strive to make a connection with every student, recognizing and celebrating their uniqueness. Personally, I am obsessed with movies and collecting sneakers! I watch at least 100 movies every year and have, um... lots of sneakers. I also enjoy walking in the park, where you can find me reading a novel or listening to podcasts. I particularly enjoy Food Truck Friday because of the live music and food.
