COMPELLING & GENERATIVE TOPIC (OR QUESTION)

Toward the conclusion of each school year, we survey our families about the events happening in the world that they most hope their children will engage with in the year to come. This data is then explored by our faculty over the summer months to design the Compelling and Generative Topic or Question (CGTQ) and the Through Lines for the coming academic year.

The CGTQ is a statement or question that serves as an overarching theme for the academic year. The Through Lines are corresponding concepts which encourage students to dig deeply into the CGTQ. The CGTQ and the Through Lines are utilized in every classroom of our school – from youngest to oldest students – to guide individual, group, and community discussions and projects. All students look at their academic year through the lens of the CGTQ and Through Lines. Students engage in projects and service-learning experiences that are intentionally connected to the school-wide theme, and which result in real-life impact.
